Dizziness & Vertigo

ENT, Neurologist

Overview

Dizziness and vertigo describe a sensation of spinning, lightheadedness, or imbalance. Causes include inner ear disorders (e.g. benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), migraine, low blood pressure, and neurological conditions.

When to See a Doctor

Seek care for sudden, severe dizziness; dizziness with headache, slurred speech, or weakness; recurring episodes; or if it affects daily activities.

More Information

An ENT or neurologist can help identify the cause. Treatment may include repositioning maneuvers for BPPV, medication, or vestibular rehabilitation. Underlying conditions should be ruled out.
